Ultrasound imaging (also called sonography) involves using sound waves to produce pictures of inside the body. These imaging studies help our physicians to diagnose and treat medical problems. Ultrasound does not use any radiation so there are no potential harmful effects. We do two types of sonograms at Lyndhurst Gynecology Associates, gynecologic and obstetric ultrasounds.
All of Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates' sonographers are credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers to provide obstetric and gynecologic ultrasounds to our patients.
Gynecologic ultrasound, or pelvic ultrasound, is used to evaluate the uterus, ovaries, and cervix. Pelvic ultrasounds are commonly used in women who may be experiencing pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, and menstrual problems. It also helps our physicians identify masses such as ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids as well as ovarian and uterine cancers.
Obstetric ultrasound provides us with pictures to determine the well being of the growing embryo or fetus within a woman's uterus. Obstetric ultrasound is commonly used to establish the presence of a living embryo/fetus, age of the pregnancy, diagnose any fetal abnormalities, and to assess fetal growth.
