There are so many health gurus, websites, books, and media out on the market today. It can get overwhelming with new information and different opinions constantly being circulated. The key is to find what works for you. For example, your friend may love running marathons and eating vegetables all the time but you don’t have the time to do long-distance running and don’t love vegetables. Or maybe your family member likes following a diet where they track macronutrients but you just don’t have the patience for that. People are individuals and are unique so not every health routine is going to work for everyone. You need to find what works for you and fits your lifestyle. One way to do this is to simplify what you already know about health and build healthy habits gradually. Follow these simple health tips and tricks to get you on the right track to finding your health routine.

1. Drink Water

No one is perfect and it can be difficult to drink water consistently. Water should be the beverage you drink the most. Staying hydrated is so important to our health and how we are feeling on an everyday basis. Skip or limit the drinks that contain a lot of sugar or chemicals.

2. Walk More

Get more movement into your daily life. The easy way to do this is by walking more. Park in the farthest parking spot or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Making small changes over time really adds up. Consider purchasing an activity or step tracker so you can see how much physical activity you are getting every day. During the day don’t sit for longer than 30 minutes at a time. Make sure to be getting up and moving around.

3. Eat Real Food

When choosing the food you buy and eat, go for “real” foods. This means avoiding highly processed foods. Ask yourself “Does this food come from the earth or an animal?” and “Can this food be made at home?”. If the answer is no then pass on that food and go for something that is less processed.

4. Eat the Rainbow

Try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Each fruit and vegetable contains its own mixture of beneficial ingredients. By eating a variety, you will make sure your body is getting plenty of good nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants.

5. Make Half Your Plate Vegetables

A simple way of judging if you are eating enough vegetables is by consistently filling half of your plate with them. This way you know you are getting enough and don’t have to count servings.

6. Get Outside Every Day

Make sure to get outside every day. This will help with exercise, vitamin D absorption, and mental health.

7. Sweat Every Day

This may not apply to everyone since some people have activity restrictions but if you are healthy and have no restrictions try to get yourself to sweat every day. The point is to make sure you are getting enough exercise.

8. Get Enough Sleep

When life gets busy many people tend to cut out sleep first. This is not the best idea for your health. Try to maintain good sleeping habits consistently. Your body will thank you.

9. Think Positively

Positive thinking and having a positive outlook is good for overall wellness.

10. Laugh Often

Laughter is good for stress relief, wellness, and mental health. When was the last time you had a good laugh? Not in a great mood? Really stressed out? Watch a funny show or go to a comedy club. The laughter will help lift your spirits and get you on the right track.
